Hands up if you’ve tried organising a bunch of friends for a weekend away? If you’re the chief organiser in your group, you’ll know what a tough job it is to decide on a venue & budget that suits everyone. Organising 9 girls for a weekend getaway is like herding cats! It’s even more difficult when some are mums with commitments to juggle to ensure their escape for a well deserved, relaxing weekend away.
We chose Byron Bay for our girls’ getaway and the amazing Vantage over Byron ticked all the boxes for our ultimate escape. While we considered alternatives, including booking a couple of apartments, we felt having everyone together in one house was going to make the world of difference to our get together and we were right.
It’s wow factor from the moment you arrive at Vantage over Byron, with a glass lift ascending to the main living area, your first glimpse is of the gleaming infinity edge pool and Byron Bay beyond.
The girls run around the house exploring every nook and cranny, deciding on their room for the weekend and squealing with delight. With 5 bedrooms including two- king twin rooms and another with bunk beds plus trundle you can cater for 9 people comfortably with their own beds or 11 if they don’t mind sharing. The master bedroom features a walk in wardrobe, stunning travertine bathroom with large bath and shower that takes in the magical view. Little luxuries continue with underfloor heating and plush towels in the bathrooms.
Also on the lower level is another lounge area with wet bar flowing outside to outdoor dining, BBQ and the infinity edge pool with day bed/meditation platform.
The décor is sophisticated, stylish with just the right amount of beachside chic. The top floor is the hub of the house, with expansive living, dining and outdoor deck with panoramic views over Byron. The gourmet kitchen is well equipped with European appliances and built for entertaining with double door fridge to hold all our Champagne! The massive dining table is so large it was handmade in the house & isn’t going anywhere in a hurry. We soon settle in to the main lounge area with plush lounges and fireplace opening out to the deck with cheese & wine for the afternoon.
Besides the obvious luxuries, it’s the thoughtful design that impresses, with each window of the house capturing magical elements of Byron, from the ocean, hinterland and even Cape Byron lighthouse.
While you are just a short walk from the main shops of Byron, the house remains restful and quiet. Waking to the sound of birds frolicking in the native heath surrounding the house is a pleasant start to the morning. We sneak out the back garden, past the kids’ playground lying dormant as the mums are sans kids, to local favourite Tuck Shop for our caffeine fix.
Our day is spent happily shopping around Byron, with great shops such as Tigerlily for a little Nina Proudman style, Morning Light for accessories, Girl Overboard for swimwear and Greenhouse Lifestyle for homewares.
That night we venture out to Miss Margarita for a Mexican feast & cocktails. The service is friendly and the meals are fresh and tasty, in fact it’s the best Mexican I’ve had in a long time. While the restaurant doesn’t accept bookings, it great for groups and who doesn’t mind sipping a margarita while you wait for your table?
We’ve written about what to see and do and where to eat in Byron Bay here, here & here, but on this occasion, Vantage over Byron is so special we just didn’t want to leave. We say our farewells and promises to return in the summer and head back to the city with precious memories of a weekend of friendship and fun.
Vantage over Byron from $900 per night, minimum 3 night stay, book online with instant confirmation & no booking fees or if you’d like alluxia to organise a stress free girls getaway, email us info@alluxia.com
