Strictly Ballroom tangoed its way into our hearts in the early 90’s with its truckload of sequins, feathers, spangly catsuits (and that was just the male dancers!) and an endearing soundtrack including “Love is in the Air”. It is credited with inspiring the Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing with the Stars juggernauts and now it’s back, Strictly Ballroom the Musical.
Opening in Sydney in April 2014, the uplifting and courageous tale of a championship ballroom dancer who defies all the rules to follow his heart will inspire a new generation.
The original team behind the classic 1992 film, including director and co-writer Baz Luhrmann, set and costume designer Catherine Martin, choreographer John “Cha Cha” O’Connell and co-writer Craig Pearce are all back to add glitz and glamour to this brand new all-singing, all dancing theatrical production, bringing this iconic story to life featuring the beloved music from the original film as well as new compositions.
