It’s the news every Australian Rolling Stones fan had been waiting for. Rolling Stones have revealed their full-scale Australian and New Zealand tour with tickets on sale tomorrow.
Rolling Stones will play Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane as part of the “14 On Fire” tour of Australia. They’ll be joined by Mick Taylor (a member of Rolling Stones from 1969-1974) for this string of strict, one-night-only shows.
Mick, Keith, Ronnie & Charlie will be treating fans to a selection of Stones hits including “Tumbling Dice”, “Gimme Shelter” and “Paint It Black” plus lesser known gems and a cover or two.
Singer Mick Jagger is reported to have said he “can’t wait to reconnect” with fans in Australia and New Zealand, while guitarist Keith Richards says “we’re all looking forward to coming down under”.
It will be the first visit to Australia for The Stones since the “A Bigger Bang” tour in 2006 which only travelled to Sydney and Melbourne. In 2003, their “Licks” tour also featured Brisbane on the itinerary, but the Stones haven’t been to Adelaide or Perth since the “Voodoo Lounge” tour way back in 1995.
Voodoo Lounge is top of my list as the best concert I’ve seen, where our group were just 10 rows from the front and could see every gyrating movement of Mick and awed by the fireworks and marvelling Keith was still alive…and that was 18 years ago! The Stones still have it, and if you want to be amongst the action tickets go on sale tomorrow. There has been much controversy about the cost of the tickets. Perth is the most expensive concert at $580.45 for a top ticket, followed by Melbourne at $578.25 to see these old rockers.
Despite the cost, it is likely the Rolling Stones will sell out in minutes – especially as this is almost certainly the last time they will appear in Australia. If you’re lucky enough to secure a ticket, you’re in for one hell of a concert experience and memories that will last a lifetime.
