alluxia: What do you love most about living in Melbourne?
Kate: There's always something happening. Melburnians embrace sport, food and culture with equal passion – so there's something for everyone.
The restaurant that best shows off your city...
The original MoVida, down Hosier Lane. Because (a) you have to wander down a dark alley to find it, (b) there's amazing street art to look out onto, and (c) the food is actually better than it is Spain.
When friends are in town I take them for a drink at...
Joe's Shoe Store in Northcote – the quintessential hipster bar. Great drinks, great music, and a relaxed low key vibe. Just don't wear any bling.
Couples wanting a romantic dinner for two should consider...
Attica in Ripponlea, if you can get in. I've been three times and it gets even more amazing every time.
The best breakfast spot is...
Wide Open Road in Brunswick is pretty fabulous. I also love Mixed Business in Clifton Hill.
The best coffee can be found at...
It's Melbourne. The best coffee is everywhere! My usual haunts are Ray's Café in Brunswick, or Penny Farthing in Northcote.
For the perfect gift or momento, I'd recommend shoppping at...
The NGV gift shop always has interesting arty gifts for hard-to-buy-for people. Rose St Artists Market in Fitzroy is always pretty good too.
The best markets can be explored at...
You can't go past the Queen Vic markets, especially the deli hall. The French cheese stall is my happy place.
For great art and culture...
Ian Potter gallery in Fed Square, or the NGV on St Kilda Rd.
The best free activity in the city is...
A picnic in the Botanical Gardens.
What's the "Must See" attraction in your city...
You haven't really been to Melbourne until you've been to an AFL game.
The city's best kept secret...
All the little bars stashed down just about every dark alley.
What's the number one thing you'd recommend people see and do in Melbourne?
I always take out-of-towners to Brunetti on Lygon St, not because the food is amazing but because there's nothing else like it. It's like a marble temple of completely over-the-top Italianate excess, filled with cake.
