When you arrive at Thala Beach Lodge you’re greeted with a fruity concoction in a tall glass, decorated with a pineapple wedge, as your luggage is whisked away allowing you to take a moment after travelling to breath deep and relax - you’ve arrived at your destination so let the holiday begin!  Thala Beach Lodge is set on 60 hectares, with bungalows scattered along the landscape, leading to the main reception where ceiling fans languidly swirl at Osprey restaurant. It’s timeless and reminiscent of Dirty Dancing & I love it.

If you’ve ever been tasked with organising a special event for friends or family, you’ll be familiar with the stress and anxiety I felt when organising a friend’s 40^th Birthday Girls Getaway recently.  There is so much to consider in the logistics and ultimately, will your plans please everyone?  In the days leading up to the event, there were calls from concerned friends “have you thought about theming?” and “Maybe we could have a yoga instructor come to the apartment?”

THE SCENE Just a tram ride away from the CBD, you’re in the heart of coastal cool & eclectic St Kilda.  Spoilt for choice, the hotel has partnered with local restaurants Amigos, phamish food & wine bar, Rococo, Fringe and Big Mouth to offer 10-15% for guests with vouchers available at reception. Although it’s hard to go past legendary Ciccolina’s and Stokehouse or pick up dessert from one of Acland Street’s finest.  Designer stores and cafes are also part of the mix as well as St Kilda Sea Baths, Luna Park or stroll the Esplanade markets on Sundays.
