There's something happening in the Canberra wine region and it's a real game-changer.

The region has long been popular with day-trippers, with 30 cellar doors located within 35 minutes drive of Canberra. The region already boasts quality wines, stunning vistas, delectable restaurants and cafes but one essential ingredient has been missing until now... quality accommodation.

Enter Abode Murrumbateman! The Canberra based independently owned hotel group has recently opened a 50-room hotel in the heart of wine country, creating a whole new destination to explore for wine weekends and romantic getaways.

The hotel continues the popular modern concept of simple rooms complemented with contemporary communal spaces. On arrival, the lobby lounge is a welcoming sunny space with friendly staff going above and beyond to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. On offer at Abode are bikes and handy wine trail maps to explore the countryside, just $5 per bike per hour if you're up to the challenge. If reading by the fireplace is more your style, they've got that covered too.

Rooms at Abode Murrumbateman
Rooms are hotel style with an appealing minimalist design aesthetic embracing natural styles and textures. Celebrating the surrounding wine region, rooms are kitted out with quirky bedside tables resembling wine corks and wine books and magazines are available to peruse from the lobby lounge.

Our Terrace room features a super comfy king size bed, sitting area, HD television, air-conditioning/heating, bar fridge, outdoor terrace and private ensuite with walk-in shower. All rooms include free wifi and coffee machine and quality, boutique fittings. We loved the stunning artwork by local landscape photographer Scott Leggo gracing the walls of each room. The artwork perfectly captures the natural beauty and colours of the surrounding landscape and complements the earthy colour palette of each room.

Abode Pantry
While there is no minibar in your room, satisfy your cravings with gourmet goodies from the lobby lounge Abode Pantry. The curated collection of produce, snacks and essentials are here to tempt plus there is a wide selection of local wines including Helm, Collector and Gundog Estate on offer. The communal kitchen is available for guests to cook up a storm and doubles as the breakfast buffet each morning.

The breakfast selection is a simple affair of bread, pastries, fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt and pancakes with barista made espresso coffee the star of the show, expertly made by Courtney during our stay. You can even arrange in-room breakfast on request if you're not keen to leave the sanctuary of your cosy abode.

Canberra District Wine Guide
Grab a wineries guide and start exploring the cool climate wine region with Eden Road Wines, Clonakilla, Helm Wines, The Vitner's Daughter and Four Winds Vineyard all within easy reach of Abode Murrumbateman. We particularly adored the cellar door experience at Helm Wines where winemaker Ken Helm was on hand to personally pour wines and regale us with stories from his rustic cellar door. Daughter Stephanie has branched out with her own label, the aptly named The Vintner's Daughter, however plan ahead as the Vintner's Daughter cellar door is open only on weekends.
