Sitting atop a headland with breathtaking vistas, it provides an island-feel holiday and is the perfect base to explore the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest as all regional day tours pick up direct from Reception. Boutique timber bungalows are built high on stilts and nestle in the forest canopy providing a private and unobtrusive relationship with the natural world. All bungalows have views either to the ocean or the forested mountains. The views from the restaurant are panoramic across the mountains and coastline. On arrival, drive to the main Reception area and staff with greet you on arrival and provide free valet parking.
Driving to Thala from Cairns city or the airport:
Please note there are current major roadworks happening between Trinity Beach/Smithfield and Cairns, so there may be changed traffic conditions to ‘map and directions’, please check before departure.
Once you leave the airport you come to a set of traffic lights at the junction with the main Cook Highway, turn RIGHT at these lights and remain on this road for approximately 50 minutes. There are a total of 9 roundabouts all between the airport and Kewarra Beach, make sure that you always exit off these roundabouts on the Port Douglas/Mossman exit (DO NOT TURN OFF FOR KURANDA). After the ninth roundabout remain on this road for approximately 25 to 30 minutes it follows the coastline and is a very picturesque drive (REMEMBER TO KEEP TO THE LEFT). You will pass Hartleys Creek Crocodile Farm and a small area of homes known as Wangetti, Thala is approximately 12 minutes past this point the road twists around the coastline, there are places that slower cars can pull over to the left and slow down to allow faster traffic following to pass. You will come to a sign on the right indicating Thala Beach Nature Reserve 100 meters ahead on the right, start indicating to turn RIGHT at this stage you will then come to our entrance, drive up to the main lodge and reception area as we have valet parking. Airport transfers are available by prior arrangement ($32 p/p one way).
