Niramaya Villas & Spa is a tranquil, tropical oasis with luxurious pavilion style villas ideal for romantic getaways or group gatherings. Arriving at Reception, you’re warmly welcomed and have a great vantage point overseeing the resort’s main pool, bar & restaurant.
We’re ushered to our “room” and audibly gasp as we enter the magnificent double doors to villa 69. We’re greeted with the most stunning & tranquil scene. Stepping-stones lead to various pavilions for dining, sleeping and lounging & we hear the soothing sounds of a water feature pouring into our own private plunge pool. Twinkling lights create a warm & inviting glow to this luxurious villa.
Sweeping through the villa, there’s an outdoor dining table with BBQ for alfresco dining, plus an indoor dining table for six. A stunning, fully equipped kitchen including coffee machine, oven, microwave, dishwasher etc so there’s really no reason to leave. If you’re smart, order groceries online prior to arrival and have the kitchen stocked ready for your holiday.
The lounge room has a comfortable modular lounge, which I eye off for a weekend of lounging about intending to watch the Eurovision marathon. The villa has beautiful pitched ceilings with ceiling fans whirring about even though it’s winter and bi-fold doors separate the pavilions and are flung open letting in sunlight and a cool breeze. While it may be a bitter winter down south, here in Port Douglas it’s tropical and divine and I leave all the doors open during my stay, even in the evening, blurring the lines between outdoors and indoors. It’s heaven.
The master bedroom has a low-set bed, enormous bathroom with spa bath, separate shower, double vanity, L’Occitane amenities and acres of wardrobe space inviting you to move right in, a little over the top seeing I’m travelling with just carryon luggage. We give the laundry a workout during our stay, seeing we’re travelling light, which is a welcome inclusion and why I love the convenience of self-contained villas compared to hotels.
The highlight of the villa is of course the private plunge pool and day bed. I dip my toe in and unfortunately it’s too cold to soak, you can however request the pool be heated in winter.
Niramaya is a great base to explore everything the region has to offer, whether that’s exploring the Daintree Rainforest or a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef. We balance a little indulgence with adventure by dining out in Port Douglas and enjoying all the festivities of Carnivale and a day trip up to Cape Tribulation for Jungle Surfing. Jungle Surfing is a fantastic activity for people of all ages and fitness levels and involves zip lining through the rainforest, hollering like Tarzan & Jane are optional and I highly recommend the experience!
General Manager, Zac Sarnecki gives me a tour of the resort via golf buggy and points out the next stage of development and it’s a tempting thought to purchase one of these villas as our very own. The resort is bordered by rainforest, lagoons and fragrant gardens and also features a luxury day spa onsite.
The spacious villas are perfectly suited to those who want to indulge in a tropical getaway and surround themselves in Bali-inspired style. Niramaya is ideal for romantic getaways, perfect as honeymoon accommodation or gathering with friends or family holiday. Whatever your style, the villas offer privacy & seclusion so you barely encounter other guests during your stay. Immerse yourself in absolute luxury and book your secluded escape at Niramaya Villas and Spa.
Hits: Private plunge pool and day bed
Misses: Bathrobes would have been a welcome inclusion.
